Check underground pipelines to ensure the safety of "Chemical City"
Recently, Jilin Petrochemical Company once again conducted comprehensive safety inspections of its underground sewage pipelines to ensure the safety of drinking water and the well-being of residents in the "Chemical City." These inspections are part of ongoing efforts to maintain environmental standards and prevent potential hazards that could affect public health.
Located along the banks of the Songhua River, Jilin Petrochemical operates a vast network of industrial facilities, including 67 main equipment units, 115 types of refined products, and thousands of operational positions. With over 4,000 environmental control points, the company emphasizes strict management of pollution sources, treating environmental protection as a core responsibility. The underground sewage system spans hundreds of square kilometers across the chemical industrial area, with three major pipelines acting as the "main arteries" that transport both domestic wastewater and industrial effluent to the company's treatment plant. There are 435 manholes throughout this extensive network, each playing a critical role in maintaining system integrity.
In response to past incidents like the Lanzhou water pollution crisis, Jilin Petrochemical has intensified its safety measures. The company conducts two daily inspections of the pipeline network, especially during the spring construction season. To enhance community involvement, they have distributed business cards to local businesses such as residential complexes, internet cafes, and restaurants, enabling prompt reporting of any subsidence or abnormalities. Additionally, leaflets were handed out to nearby residents, raising awareness about the risks of igniting firecrackers or other flammable materials near manholes. This initiative aims to prevent dangerous substances from entering the sewer system and causing accidents.
To further improve pedestrian safety in residential areas, the company has installed anti-fall nets on manholes and introduced specially designed "reinforced compression-type" covers. Damaged covers are promptly repaired or replaced to ensure the safety of daily commutes for residents of the "Chemical City."
Jilin Petrochemical continues to treat its underground infrastructure with the same level of care as above-ground facilities. By proactively addressing potential risks, the company is committed to safeguarding the living environment and ensuring a safe, stable, and peaceful community for all.
