Self-priming pump operation process

The Shanghai Yiling series self-priming pump can be lubricated with high-quality calcium-based grease or No. 10 oil, depending on the working conditions of the pump. If using grease, it should be regularly added to the bearing housing. If oil is used, ensure that the oil level is sufficient and top it up if necessary.

Before starting the self-priming pump, several preparatory checks are essential. 1. Lubricate the pump with high-quality calcium-based grease or No. 10 oil based on its operating conditions. If grease is used, fill the bearing housing regularly. If the oil level is low, add more oil. 2. Ensure that the liquid inside the pump casing is above the top edge of the impeller. If not, fill the pump through the filling port. Never start the pump when there is insufficient liquid, as this can cause improper operation and damage the mechanical seal. 3. Check for any jamming or collision in the rotating parts of the pump. 4. Inspect the pump base and joint nuts to make sure they are tight. 5. Verify the coaxiality and parallelism between the pump shaft and motor shaft. 6. Check the inlet pipe for leaks and fix them if found. 7. Open the suction valve slightly, not fully open. Once the pump is ready, proceed with the startup and operation process. 1. Perform a short test run to confirm the correct rotation direction of the pump shaft. 2. Listen for any unusual noise or vibration during the initial turn. 3. Monitor the pressure gauge and vacuum gauge readings. After some fluctuations, stable readings indicate the pump has entered normal operation. 4. Pay attention to the temperature rise inside the pump before it reaches normal operation. If the temperature becomes too high, stop the pump and check the cause. 5. If the liquid temperature is too high and the pump struggles to prime, temporarily stop the pump and allow liquid from the discharge pipe to flow back into the pump. Alternatively, add liquid directly through the pump’s filling port to cool it down before restarting. 6. If the pump experiences strong vibrations or noise during operation, it may be due to cavitation. Cavitation can occur if the inlet flow is too high or the suction lift is too great. Adjust the outlet control valve to increase the pressure gauge reading. If the inlet is clogged, clear it immediately. If the suction lift is too high, consider lowering the pump installation height. 7. When stopping the pump during operation, always slightly open the outlet control valve when restarting. This helps release air from the discharge port and ensures a smoother start-up.
