Vice Governor of Jilin investigated the State Key Laboratory of Superhard Materials of Jilin University

On March 29, Vice Governor of Jilin Province, Gu Chunli, led a delegation to visit Jilin University to explore its technological innovations. The visit included Li Jianhua, Director of the Science and Technology Department of Jilin Province, and Bai Xu, Deputy Director of the Provincial Government Office. At the university, they were accompanied by Chen Dewen, Party Secretary of Jilin University, Zhao Ji, Executive Vice President, Zhang Xiangdong, Vice President, and other relevant officials.
During the tour, Gu Chunli and his team visited several key research facilities on the Nanling and Central Campuses, including the State Key Laboratory of Automotive Simulation and Control, the Institute of Roll Forging Technology, the State Key Laboratory of Superhard Materials, and the National Engineering Laboratory for AIDS Vaccines. Each stop offered insights into cutting-edge research and development efforts at the university.
At the automotive simulation laboratory, Gu Chunli asked detailed questions about the simulator's capabilities and emphasized the importance of developing advanced testing equipment and simulation software. He encouraged the lab to leverage its technical strengths to capture market opportunities while maintaining excellence in both research and education.
In the Roll Forging Technology Research Institute, the team learned about flexible forming technology and the "flexible stretching machine." This innovative approach significantly reduces mold costs and has broad applications in shipbuilding, rail transit, automotive panels, and aerospace. Li Jianhua praised the technology and expressed hope that it would soon win industry recognition.
At the Central Campus, Gu Chunli was impressed by the superhard materials developed under extreme conditions, which reached pressures similar to those found at the Earth’s core. He also engaged with researchers at the AIDS Vaccine National Engineering Laboratory, asking whether the vaccine could be directly delivered to diseased cells, sparking new discussions among scientists.
Throughout the visit, Gu Chunli highlighted the need for universities to develop a clear path toward mastering core technologies, producing essential equipment, and establishing competitive enterprises. He called for more innovation in research systems, stronger collaboration between industry, academia, and research institutions, and better integration of resources to boost regional technological advancement.
Gu Chunli commended Jilin University for its strong scientific foundation and potential for industrial development. He urged the university to deepen science and technology reforms, accelerate management innovation, and build a robust innovation system that supports industry-academia partnerships. He also promised continued provincial support to help translate research into real-world applications, strengthen school-enterprise cooperation, and enhance Jilin’s overall technological capacity.
