a. It heats up quickly, reaching approximately 500°C within just 3 minutes;
b. It allows for precise control of the extrusion temperature, with an error margin of no more than ±3°C.
If the cast rod is heated too slowly, it can lead to the precipitation of Mg2Si phases, which may negatively affect the strengthening effect of the alloy.
(2) When extruding aluminum profiles, several factors were considered and the extrusion process for 6082 alloy was optimized accordingly.
1. Due to the high deformation resistance of 6082 alloy, the cast rod temperature should be set toward the upper limit, between 480°C and 500°C.
2. The temperature of the aluminum extrusion die should also be kept relatively high to ensure smooth processing.
3. To avoid defects such as shrinkage, bubbles, or oxide inclusions, the pressure should be maintained for a longer period during the extrusion process.
4. In order to fully dissolve the main strengthening phase, Mg2Si, the quenching temperature must be above 500°C. The temperature at the extrusion exit should be controlled between 500°C and 530°C.
5. 6082 aluminum alloy is highly sensitive to quenching. The presence of Mn promotes the formation of intragranular intermetallic compounds, which can adversely affect the quenching performance. Therefore, a high cooling intensity and fast cooling rate are required. It must be quenched in water to rapidly lower the temperature below 50°C.
6. After cutting the 6082 aluminum profile, the mounting frame should be spaced appropriately and not placed too densely to prevent damage or deformation.
By carefully controlling these parameters, manufacturers can significantly improve the quality and mechanical properties of 6082 aluminum alloy products, ensuring they meet the required standards for various industrial applications.
