Vice Governor of Jilin investigated the State Key Laboratory of Superhard Materials of Jilin University

On March 29, Vice Governor of Jilin Province, Gu Chunli, led a delegation to visit Jilin University to inspect its technological innovations. Accompanying him were Li Jianhua, director of the Science and Technology Department of Jilin Province, and Bai Xu, deputy director of the Provincial Government Office. At the university, they were welcomed by Chen Dewen, Party Secretary of Jilin University, Zhao Ji, Executive Vice President, Zhang Xiangdong, Vice President, and other key officials.
The visit included tours of several major research facilities on the Nanling and Central Campuses, such as the State Key Laboratory of Automotive Simulation and Control, the Institute of Roll Forging Technology, the State Key Laboratory of Superhard Materials, and the National Engineering Laboratory for AIDS Vaccines. Each stop provided an in-depth look at cutting-edge technologies and their potential applications.
At the Automotive Simulation and Control laboratory, Gu Chunli expressed particular interest in the large-scale driving performance simulator. He emphasized the importance of developing advanced automotive testing equipment and simulation software, while maintaining strong academic and teaching standards. He encouraged the lab to leverage its technical resources to capture market opportunities and lead in innovation.
In the Roll Forging Technology Research Institute, the team learned about flexible forming technology and the “flexible stretching machine,†which uses multi-point digital pull technology to significantly reduce mold costs. This innovation has wide applications in shipbuilding, rail transit, automotive parts, and aerospace. Li Jianhua praised the technology and hoped it would soon win industry recognition and market success.
At the Central Campus, Gu Chunli was impressed by the high-pressure synthesis of superhard materials, which reached conditions similar to those at the Earth’s core. He also visited the AIDS Vaccine National Engineering Laboratory, where he engaged with researchers on vaccine development, including questions about direct injection into diseased cells, sparking new ideas for further exploration.
Throughout the visit, Gu Chunli emphasized the need for universities to focus on mastering core technologies, developing advanced equipment, and establishing competitive enterprises. He urged Jilin University to reform its research systems, promote industry-university-research collaboration aligned with market demands, and build strong partnerships between schools and enterprises. He also called for enhanced scientific synergy, optimized resource integration, and stronger support from the provincial government to boost regional innovation and industrial growth.
Gu Chunli commended Jilin University’s strong research capabilities and potential for industrial development. He stressed the importance of deepening science and technology reforms, accelerating management innovation, and building a robust technological innovation system that supports industry-university-research cooperation. He pledged continued provincial support to help Jilin University advance its research achievements and enhance its role in regional development.
