Industry tricks: buy tiles have to pay attention to
Tiles are one of the most commonly used home improvement products, and they have become a staple in modern interior design. With their large quantity and wide range of applications—whether for flooring or wall decoration—choosing the right tiles can be a bit overwhelming. But how do you select trendy and stylish ceramic tiles that match your overall decor? On October 21, a reporter visited several major home stores in the capital to learn from experienced sales staff about the best ways to choose ceramic tiles for different spaces.
“Tiles are fired at high temperatures, so choosing the right color is key,†said Yu Fang, a tile sales expert with years of experience. “Many customers think it's easy to pick out tiles, but in reality, it's more about finding the right balance between aesthetics and practicality.†According to Yu Fang, the selection process varies depending on the space. While quality is always a top priority, the layout and function of each room also play a crucial role in determining the best tile choice.
For the living room, which is often the focal point of the home, decorative tiles with strong visual appeal are ideal. These should be elegant in both style and craftsmanship, with colors that enhance the space. Light-colored tiles, such as white, light beige, or subtly patterned options, are recommended to create a bright and welcoming atmosphere. Yu Fang explained, “Bright tiles can reflect too much light, leading to eye strain over time. It’s better to go for lighter shades and matte finishes for a more comfortable living environment.â€
In the kitchen, where both functionality and aesthetics matter, wall and floor tiles play an important role. Traditional white tiles are still popular, but modern designs now offer a variety of patterns and textures. Smooth glazed tiles are ideal for walls due to their ease of cleaning. Smaller-sized tiles can also add unique decorative effects. Additionally, cool-toned tiles are preferred in kitchens because they complement the heat generated during cooking.
The bathroom, being a smaller space, benefits from smaller tiles that make it easier to achieve a proper slope for drainage. Yu Fang noted that anti-slip features are essential in this area. Tiles with textured surfaces or raised patterns are preferable, while highly glossy tiles should be avoided. This ensures both safety and comfort in a wet environment.
In the bedroom, where relaxation is key, it’s important to choose high-quality, eco-friendly tiles that support a healthy living environment. The color should harmonize with the furniture, and it’s generally advisable to keep the number of colors in a single space to three or fewer for a cohesive look.
