China's shale gas exploration finds the deepest horizontal well buried

After testing, the well has demonstrated impressive performance, producing up to 43,000 cubic meters of gas per day, with potential daily output reaching as high as 105,000 cubic meters. The well's oil pressure and gas flow have remained stable throughout the testing phase, indicating strong reservoir performance. Located in Xishui County, Guizhou, the Dingye 2HF well lies within the Lintan Field-Dingshan Northeast tectonic belt, part of the southeastern Sichuan Basin. The well was completed at a depth of 5,451.66 meters, with a vertical depth of 4,441.43 meters and a horizontal section measuring 1,034.23 meters. This represents a major engineering achievement in deep shale gas development. According to the person in charge of the South Exploration Branch of Sinopec, this well is the deepest horizontal shale gas well in China and represents a new area for shale gas exploration following the Fuling Jiaoshi Dam field in Chongqing. After nearly five months of staged fracturing, anti-spray testing, cementing, and fluid discharge, the drilling team overcame numerous challenges, including high pump pressure, high-pressure conditions, deep drilling, and multi-layer casing operations. Through optimized design and innovative techniques, the team initially developed a segmentation fracturing technology suitable for deep shale gas reservoirs. This achievement has set new technical benchmarks for casing cementing and gas fracturing in the Sinopec industry, marking a key milestone in China’s energy development.
