According to the data released by the China Machine Tool Industry Association, the import growth rate of China's machine tool products in 2011 was high, with a total import of 20.29 billion US dollars and exports of only 8.9 billion US dollars.

In 2010, China's machine tool trade deficit was only 8.04 billion US dollars, and by 2011, China's machine tool industry trade deficit was as high as 11.39 billion US dollars, and the number of imports increased year by year. The main reason for this gap is that, on the one hand, the explosive growth of demand and supply of ordinary machine tools in China has restricted the improvement of the overall process level of users and slowed down the overall manufacturing level of the machine tool industry. On the other hand, domestic enterprises have insufficient independent innovation capability and cannot meet the demand for products with high technical requirements such as heavy-duty machine sheets. This is also a structural problem in China's machine tool products.

The core technology of the machine tool is the CNC system. At present, do not say the system, even the domestically produced CNC machine tools with a slightly better quality, the high-precision ball screw used, the bearings are mainly imported from Japan. However, China's own production of ball screws, bearings have problems in terms of accuracy and life. The major machine tool factories in China, the CNC system is 100% outsourcing.

In the machine tool industry, CNC machine tools are based on the number of axes, 3-axis and 5-axis are medium-to-high-end products, and 5-axis or higher is high-end products. At present, China's machine tools are mostly low-end products below 3 axes. For the reason why there are many low-end products in China, China's machine tool manufacturing started late, and shortcomings such as lack of professional talents can not be remedied in a short time.
