Nissin Textile Co., Ltd. from Japan recently announced a breakthrough in solar panel technology. The company has developed an innovative protective film that can extend the "shelf life" of solar panels by approximately 50%, significantly increasing their overall service life. This advancement could have a major impact on the renewable energy sector, offering more durable and long-lasting solar solutions.
The new material was created by a specialized subsidiary of Nisshinbo Textile Co., Ltd., which focuses on photovoltaic materials and equipment. Researchers at the subsidiary used a unique type of rubber to develop a highly effective protective film for solar panels. This film offers superior protection, reducing the risk of performance degradation even under extreme environmental conditions such as high temperatures and humidity.
To test the effectiveness of the new film, the team conducted a 3800-hour high-voltage destructive test in an environment of 85°C and 85% humidity. The results were impressive—solar panels equipped with the new protective film showed no signs of degradation throughout the entire testing period.
According to Nisshin Textile Co., Ltd., standard high-quality solar panels typically last around 20 years, with a maximum of 2,500 hours of destructive testing before showing any signs of wear. With this new protective film, the expected lifespan of solar panels could surpass 20 years, making them even more cost-effective and sustainable over time.
This development marks a significant step forward in improving the durability and efficiency of solar technology, potentially leading to broader adoption and longer-term benefits for both consumers and the environment. (Reporter: Le Shaoyan)
