The quality of the masks and filter effects sold online

Since the word “smog” emerged in 2012, various kinds of mask products emerged in an endless stream. Most of them claimed to have dust-proof and anti-dusting functions, and had a good filtering effect on particles such as PM2.5.

If so? Recently, the Consumer Protection Committee of Zhejiang Province conducted a comparative test on the filtering performance of various types of masks sold on major commercial websites. It was found that the 25 batches of masks tested did not meet the requirements of GB2626-2006 national standards, and the minimum filtering effect was only 5%.

Commodity sampling comes from e-commerce website

In this comparative experiment, the Provincial Consumer Protection Committee conducted online shopping sampling on four commercial websites: Tmall, Jingdong, Amazon, and No.1. Among them, Tmall into a population of 8 batches of masks, children masks 2 batches; Jingdong adults 5 masks batches, children masks 2 batches; Amazon into population cover 5 batches, children masks 2 batches; No. 1 The shop had 5 batches of population masks and 2 masks for children. A total of 29 batches were sampled.

However, because there were no product information on the four batches of the sample package, it could not be included in the scope of the test. In the end, only 25 batches were detected. Each batch of 15 samples, of which 10 were untreated and 5 were pretreated with temperature and humidity.

The testing standards are mainly based on the GB2626-2006 "Respiratory protection self-priming filter-type particle respirator" standard, and the mask filter efficiency index is tested.

Large difference in filter effect

According to reports, China will be divided into two kinds of masks: KN and KP. KN is suitable for filtering non-oily particles. KP is suitable for filtering oily and non-oily particles (KN is the main dust mask for civil use). The minimum filtration efficiency of the filter element is divided into three grades: "90 grade" means a minimum filtration efficiency of 90.0%, "95 grade" means a minimum filtration efficiency of 95.0%, and "100 grade" means a minimum filtration efficiency of 99.97%.

The filtration efficiency refers to the percentage of particulate matter removed by the filter element under the specified detection conditions; it is one of the most critical technical indicators of the mask.

However, the masks of the 25 batches of the test did not meet the requirements of the national standard of GB2626-2006, and the difference in the value of the filtering effect between commodities was still relatively large. For example, an ear-mounted type “Green Breathing Respirator” manufactured by Beijing Sino-Purtech Technology Co., Ltd. has a filtration efficiency of only 5%, and “child protection filter masks produced by Baiyuan Household Products (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. The maximum is 82.2%.

In addition, there was a sign of confusion in the samples tested. Provincial Consumer Protection Committee reminded that there are many kinds of masks. Consumers should purchase the masks through formal channels according to the specific circumstances.
