Hong Kong surface mechanical grinding treatment method to help aircraft slimming

Nanomaterials composed of particles smaller than 100 nm in size are currently widely used in various industries. The Hong Kong Polytechnic University has recently received more than $9 million from the RGC, the Innovation and Technology Fund, and international corporations to study structural nanomaterials in both theoretical and technical applications. Lv Jian, lecturer and department head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at PolyU, said that nanomaterials are generally strong in strength but lack toughness. Therefore, they are committed to the development of nanostructured materials with both strong and tough properties, which are expected to be used in the manufacture of aircraft casings. “Length reduction” to reduce fuel consumption; and biomedical applications, making lightweight and strong prostheses, bio-melting is better than ordinary materials.
The “Research and Development of Multilayer Nanostructured Metal Sheets/Boards for Engineering Structures” funded by the Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials R&D Center under the Innovation and Technology Fund, also won the China Baosteel Group and the European Aerospace Defense and Space Technology Corporation. Supported by (EADS), the latter is the parent company of Airbus, and holds a leading position in aerospace, space and related services worldwide. Both companies are among the top 500 companies in the world, and the total amount of funding for the project is 5 million yuan. The study period will end in October next year.
