Brazil accelerates the development of wind power

Wind power, one of the world's renewable energy sources, has been cheaper in Brazil than gas-fired thermoelectricity, and the Brazilian government has positioned wind power as a demonstration of new energy. In some cases, wind power is cheaper than gas-fired power generated by sugar cane.

On August 17 and 18, Brazil’s Energy Agency held an electric auction in Sao Paulo and signed 1.929 million kilowatts of wind power. The unit will be installed within three years and will start supplying power in 2014. Tor Maskin, president of Brazilian Energy Research, disclosed that 1,000 wind turbines will be contracted and installed this year. At present, there are four wind turbine manufacturers in Brazil. If the above procurement agreement is confirmed by the relevant local authorities, his company will issue a certificate for certification. The annual assembly capacity of the four wind turbine generators is 2.8 million kilowatts, or 1,400. In addition to the above four, the Brazilian government also informed the other four companies to discuss with the Brazilian Economic and Social Development Bank the establishment of a wind turbine assembly plant.

Brazil has a total electric capacity of 110 million kilowatts, of which 5.7 million kilowatts is wind power. At the above auction, the price of wind power was surprising. The price per kilowatt was between 62.21-6.23 US dollars (the price of gas-fired thermoelectric electricity is generally above 75 US dollars). In previous wind power auctions, prices were generally $81.25/kilo, and wind power prices were as high as $125/kWh two years ago.

The Brazilian government, relevant agencies, and the media are all optimistic about wind power and believe that there is still a lot of work to be done to form a large-scale industry, but they are convinced that the Brazilian people can enjoy the clean energy of cheap wind power in the future.
